dishwasher soap surprise

my all-time favorite is finding her magnetic letters in the soap dispenser for the dishwasher because she has managed to be very guileful about her business.

the farmer stands alone.

Huntleigh knows where to put each animal in its appropriate place in her barn, and when it comes to the farmer, she always puts him right here...on the roof of his barn. I suppose it is her understanding of the cultural mandate.

Ami, in captivity.

i tried posting these next few pictures all in one blog entry, but it wouldn't let me do it, so this will be the "few of my favorite things" sequence. these are things that have brought laughter to my heart in those quiet and mundane moments of my day. this is Ami, Huntleigh's chamois doll which she needs in her hands to fall asleep. i know she loves Ami, but i think she likes to torture her, too. i often find Ami trapped between the bars of the crib, as she is here. and when i come in to get her in the morning or after a nap, Hunts acts as though she is surprised to find Ami in such a compromising position and is anxious to show me so that i can rescue her.

why did I feed you peanut butter?

I know Huntleigh really likes peanut butter, but when it takes me four times as long to get it out of her hair as it does for her to put it in her hair, I have to question why in the world I fed it to her. (I took this picture with my computer since Josh left our digital in a taxi in Hong Kong and someone immediately stole it. Oh well.)

oh yeah.

I am having trouble posting pictures, so I will resort to writing for now. Here's a few random things I've been wanting to say:

Huntleigh is now 16 1/2 months old. Crazy.

She is really into "dipping" her food. It started with chicken nuggets and ketchup, but it has spread into all sorts of genres: waffles & syrup, waffles & yogurt, pizza & caesar salad dressing, grapes & ketchup, celmentines & ketchup...(the fruit kind of gets mixed in there with the chicken nuggets, but she doesn't seem to think it an oddity, so whatever floats her boat).

She says "cha" to let me know she would like some ketchup. I think there's a silent "p" at the end of "cha."

She is always quite anxious to get through the prayer to the food, but she does manage an "mmmm" or sometimes a "men" at the end of praying!

I have fed her chicken nuggets for every meal aside from breakfast for a month now. Please don't judge me, but it is the only thing I can get her to eat besides fruit. Thank you Tyson.

She says animal noises for a lion, tiger, bear (they are all a hearty "roar!"), elephant, owl, cow, dog, and duck, but if I ask her what a pig says, she moves her mouth as though she were going to say something, but nothing ever comes out. I've noticed that she does this as consistently as we go through the repertoire, so I am pretty sure that is what she believes a pig says. It's funnier if you are able to watch her do it. She does the same thing when we sing the alphabet song or "e-i-e-i-o" from "Old MacDonald," so I don't know if they are all filed away into the same learning period in her ever-expounding memory, or what it is.

She loves Dora the Explorer and whenever we watch an episode she does this circular dance before she settles into her chair. I think there's Latino influence in her dance steps.

Her newest thing is to answer "yeah" to any sort of question one may ask her. It's so sweet because she looks at you so intently and says "yeah," just like she's been saying it her whole life.

addie and the hunts

When we were in Alabama, we had the privilege of ending the trip with a visit to our good friends, the Illmans'. It is fun to know people as parents after you have known them as a married couple without kids--especially when all parties involved have children. It's like being part of an exclusive club--the kind of club that requires exhaustion, being pooped and peed on at least once, faking it on a Sunday morning when all hell has broken loose in your house, and other such things for membership. Anyways, the Illmans are those friends whom we love dearly but only had a short time to build our friendship before they packed up and headed south. Thanks for the time, friends.
